Tornado

If you are notified a tornado is approaching:

  • Move quickly to an interior room or hallway on the lowest level
    • Avoid rooms below large roof sections such as gymnasiums, auditoriums, or cafeterias
    • Stay away from windows
  • Sit down or kneel on the floor against the wall. Protect your head and face.
  • Do not leave your building unless instructed to do so.
  • If outside, seek shelter in a nearby building or the lowest point (find a ditch or depression, lie down and protect your head and face)

After a tornado :

  • Beware of:
    • Broken glass
    • Hanging electrical lines (inside or outside)
    • Unstable equipment and debris
    • Gas leaks or chemical spills
  • Call Public Safety (911) if there is significant damage to your building or if anyone is hurt.
  • Check on fellow employees and students
  • Begin building evacuation, if necessary. See EVACUATION link.
