Emergency - Police Assistance Needed

If you discover a police related emergency (i.e. crime in progress):

  • DO NOT ATTEMPT TO APPREHEND OR INTERFERE WITH A CRIMINAL EXCEPT IN SELF-DEFENSE
  • If it is safe to do so, try to get a detailed description of the criminal, noting:
    • Characteristics, such as -
      • Height, Weight
      • Sex, Race, Age
      • Clothing
      • Weapon (if any)
    • Method of travel: foot, car, truck, bicycle, van, accomplice driver
    • Direction of travel
  • If the criminal enters a vehicle, note its -
    • License Number (registration plate)
    • Make, model, color
    • Any other identifiers (damage, different colored fenders, emblems)
  • Call Public Safety (911).
  • Remain where you are until contacted by a Public Safety officer.

If you are notified of a police emergency:

  • Cooperate fully with Public Safety
  • Begin building evacuation, lockdown, sheltering, etc. as needed. See EVACUATION link.
