Campus Safety
Saluki Safe Booklet
Living safely in the residence halls requires paying attention to a few important points:

STRANGERS: Do not prop open outer doors. Do not let strangers enter dormitory or premises. If someone knocks, find out who it is before you answer.  If someone asks to use your phone for an emergency call, offer to telephone for them instead of allowing them access.

KEYS: Have your keys ready as you approach your residence. Do not attach your name or address to your keys. Keep your room key separate from your car keys in case one or both are lost or stolen. If your keys are lost or stolen, contact your Student Resident Assistant and the police.

LOCKS & LIGHTS: Keep your windows and doors locked when you are gone,  even if you only leave for a few minutes.  Do not advertise your absence with a note.  Sleep with your bedroom door locked and lock your exterior doors. Report defective locks and burnt-out lights to your Resident Assistant.

PROPERTY: Open a savings or checking account instead of keeping money in your room.  Keep your credit cards, including bills and receipts, checkbooks and important documents and numbers out of sight and secure. Draw the shades or curtains after dark.  Do not leave any valuables unattended in floor lounges or other common areas, or in places where they may be visible from the outside of your residence.

WALKING: If you must walk alone, walk briskly on well-lit paths in well populated areas. Walk the Brightway Path. Walk confidently, with purpose. Be alert and aware of your surroundings. Avoid hats that obstruct your vision, or earphones that impair your hearing.  Carry only the cash and credit cards you need.
